Welcome to Historical Crafts Camp at Storholmen Viking Village! Here, craft enthusiasts, experienced practitioners and curious beginners come together to explore traditional crafts and techniques in an inspiring historical setting.

Every summer, we organise a crafts camp where participants can learn new skills, deepen their knowledge of traditional crafts and meet others who share an interest in handicrafts and cultural heritage. The camp is usually held during week 28 and offers a weekend of hands-on creativity, knowledge-sharing and community.

Explore Traditional Crafts

Over the years, we have offered courses in a wide range of crafts, including blacksmithing, wood carving, basket weaving, birch bark crafts, hide processing, embroidery, plant dyeing and historical cooking.

We explore the materials and methods people have used throughout history, with an emphasis on learning by doing. Courses are led by skilled craftspeople and instructors who share their knowledge, experience and passion.

The programme varies from year to year, offering opportunities both for beginners who want to try something new and for those who wish to develop their existing skills. We have also offered activities for children and young people, helping more people discover the joy of traditional crafts.

Craft, History and Community

The crafts camp takes place at Storholmen Viking Village, an open-air museum featuring reconstructed Viking Age buildings, a great hall and herb gardens. The setting offers a unique opportunity to explore traditional crafts in an environment that brings the past to life.

The camp is also a chance to meet like-minded people, exchange experiences and find inspiration in each other’s work.
