For Schools
Storholmen Viking Village offers educational programmes with clear links to the Swedish national curriculum, using the Viking Age to create an understanding of today’s society through pedagogical anachronism and hands-on learning.
Viking Village offers an educational programme where living history is used as a tool for learning. Our school programmes are designed with a clear connection to the Swedish national curriculum (Lgr22) and are based on experiential learning and historical understanding.
Through the use of pedagogical anachronism – where students compare Viking Age society with our own time – we create an understanding of historical connections, change and continuity. Students explore how ideas, inventions, trade and cultural encounters during the Viking Age continue to influence our society today.
Learning takes place through practical activities, discussions, reflection and shared experiences. By engaging multiple senses – taste, smell, sight, hearing and touch – knowledge is anchored both intellectually and physically, strengthening memory and understanding.
Our educators work in a structured and age-appropriate way, with a focus on participation, source awareness and critical thinking. Storholmen Viking Village is a valuable educational complement to classroom teaching and supports the school’s work in history, social studies, religion, crafts and sustainable development.
