Harvest Festival at Storholmen Viking Village

Growing, Wild Plants and Traditional Crafts

Welcome to the Harvest Festival at Storholmen Viking Village! Here, gardening enthusiasts, nature lovers and curious visitors come together to discover how people have grown crops, gathered wild plants and used nature’s resources from prehistoric times through the Middle Ages. Through hands-on activities, crafts and the sharing of knowledge, we explore the importance of plants in everyday life throughout history.

Share and Swap Your Harvest

One of the highlights of the festival is the opportunity to swap homegrown produce with other growers. Do you have apples, berries, vegetables, seeds or other things from your garden that you would like to share? Bring your surplus and exchange it for something new!

The swap is inspired by traditional ways of exchanging goods and knowledge. You are welcome to join the festival even if you have nothing to trade. Everyone can take part in the activities and enjoy the programme.

Discover the History of Plants

How have people used plants throughout history? At the Harvest Festival, you can learn about how plants have been used for food, medicine, clothing, toys and tools. Depending on the programme, activities may include traditional crafts, games, talks about edible wild plants and fun competitions celebrating the biggest, strangest or most beautiful things grown in the garden.

There is something for both children and adults, whether you grow your own food, are interested in nature and cultural history, or simply want to enjoy a different kind of day in the Viking Village.

Would You Like to Take Part?

We welcome people who would like to share their knowledge, host an activity or contribute something interesting to the festival. If you are interested in participating, please contact us at info@storholmen.org.
