Harvest Festival

History and traditional crafts connected to cultivation and wild plants, from ancient times to the Middle Ages. Swap your harvest with others – barter is the way! Activities, hands-on experiences, learning and games. For all ages.

Do you have far too many apples or currants and don’t know what to do with them? Bring them along and swap them with other growers during the day! Perhaps you’d rather have seeds, beans or onions that someone else has in surplus? This is bartering, just like in the Viking Age! If you don’t have anything to trade, there are plenty of other things to see and do.

How does it work?

If you would like to participate, bring along some of your harvest and you will be given a table. You don’t need to stay at your table – you can take part in the day’s activities until it’s time for the barter, announced by a signal!

Learn about how plants have been used throughout history – for medicine, food, clothing, toys and tools. Among other things:

• Swap fruit, berries, vegetables and seeds with other home growers
• Competition: Biggest, Most Beautiful and Strangest Vegetable/Fruit
• Café
• Try traditional crafts, such as weaving with plant fibres
• Games
• Talk about edible wild plants
