Guided tour in the Iron Age burial ground
There is a large burial ground beautifully situated in an old oak tree grove, with century-old oaks, at a walking distance from the Storholmen Viking Village. There are 166 graves in this burial site, ranging from the Early Iron Age, around 500 to 1000 AD. Ancient remains are visible to the naked eye and are very easy to discern as cows are grazing the grounds. Nature comes to life during the springtime on the old burial site, now a nature reserve for several kinds of flowers and birds.
A Viking meets the group and walk you thorough the Burialfield. Maybe you will meet the chief or the housewife of the nearby Storholmen Viking village. During the tour you will learn about the region where the burial site is located, about archaeological excavations made, waterways, and Viking age settlements. You will also learn more about how people buried their deceased relatives during Viking Age, about life on the farmstead, and the journeys over the Baltic Sea to the east. The tour is ended in the Viking village.
Additional handicraft
To the guided tour a short demonstration of Viking age handicraft methods can be added, for example forging, wool handicraft or making Viking age bread by the fire.
Coffe or lunch
A coffee or tea break with lighter refreshments, or a Viking age inspired lunch can be added to the guided tour.
