About the Vikingvillage Storholmen
Storholmen Viking village is located by the lake Erken. Next to the ancient village there is a large burial field dated from the Iron Age. There are 166 grave-mounds alongside other remains. This area is also a beautiful nature reserve with oak trees, hundreds of years old. The Village is situated in the middle of an exciting historical site, which tells us about the important connections with the east Baltic. Plenty of objects that trigger the imagination have been found in the area.
Several reconstructed buildings can be found within the Village. For example a pit house, a house with timber-framed walls, and an outdoor forge. On the location there is also an exhibition hall combined with a café, open during the summer. Storholmen, the Viking Village was established in 1996, and since then activities have been organised for children and adults.
We, who runs Storholmen, gladly want our visitors to receive, not only a rich experience of the Viking Ages, but also something unexpected to bring back home after a day filled with activities. The unexpected could be to focus on things that are rarely told about this period of time, things that astonish and awakens curiosity. It could also be to find new eye-openers of how history is made.
The Vikingvillage Storholmen is not only a village. Storholmen mixes the best of the life of societies with museum activities. Read more about Storhomlen here, and how you can get involved!
